Snowshoe hike in Hudson

Leader: Martin Hofton

Distance: 3 km +

Level: Easy

On January 3rd, 2016, join us for what might be one of the first full snowshoe outing of the season. We will meet in the parking lot of the Whitlock Golf and Country Club, 128, Côte St-Charles in Hudson at 9:00 am for a 9.15 am departure.

Take exit 22 from Autoroute 40. If coming from the Montreal direction, turn right on Côte St Charles (towards Hudson). Ignore the “Chemin du Golf” near Mon Village Restaurant. Cross Route 342 and continue 1 km, then turn left on Chemin du Golf which is the Whitlock entrance.

Please park at the far end of the Whitlock Parking past the Clubhouse.

We will make an easy circuit of the golf course of about 3 kms to enable new and veteran snowshoers to find their snow-legs. It will be on open ground, so you will be able to return to your car at any time. When we return to the parking, for those who wish to do more, we can make another circuit of the same length on a different route.

If you are new to snowshoeing you will be very welcome. There will be plenty of experienced members to help you. We just ask that you familiarize yourself with the bindings of your snowshoes and know how to put them on and take them off.

If you do not have snowshoes yet, but would like to try out the sport, you can rent a pair from Pascal Chevrier at Village Cycle Hudson, 38 Yacht Club Road, Hudson, 450-458-7401.

We look forward to seeing everyone on January 3rd.

REPORT

Although we had a green Christmas, thanks to a generous dumping of snow, we enjoyed a white New Year and excellent conditions for our first snow shoe hike of the season on January 3 under cloudy skies and a pleasant temperature of -1C.

20 members, including two beginners set off along the West Course at Whitlock. One person turned back and one latecomer caught us up near the end of the “front nine”.

13 strong pairs of legs continued for a second circuit, this time on the South Course. In all we covered 4.5 kms.

Martin Hofton was hike leader and Yves ??, another Whitlock member acted as tail ender.

There were no incidents, and ideal snow conditions to get the snow shoe muscles working again.
