A hike around Hudson

Leader: Terry Browitt

Distance: about 10 km

Level: Intermediate (Levels of difficulty for hikes)

Ascent: none

Dear Hikers,

On Sunday December 6, 2015 there will be a hike around Hudson.

Because of the uncertainty of the weather and snow conditions at this time of year we will repeat the "Around Hudson" hike that was organized last December. This route can be walked even in moderate snow or rain, it can also be modified on the fly and we are never too far from our cars.

We will meet at 9:00 am for a 9:10 am departure in the parking opposite the SAQ on the corner of Selkirk and Main Road in Hudson.

We will proceed along Main Road to St James Church then via the Clarke Sydenham Nature Conservatory to the top of Birch Hill before crossing in front of Whitlock Golf and Country Club . Along St Charles to Dwyer Park and then follow the Viviry River to Sandy Beach with a great view of Lac des Deux-Montagnes and Oka.

We will finish the hike at Cunningham’s Pubon Cameron

where those who are interested can join together and have a pint of beer or a glass of wine to celebrate the beginning of the Christmas season. They also serve a very enjoyable lunch. The walk will be about 10 km. Apart from a section on Main Road; it will be mostly on woodland trails and we should be at the Pub around 11:30. Non hiking spouses, partners and friends are welcome to join us at this point for the festive celebrations.

There will be no charge for this event other than usual club dues but we would like to give the management of the Pub some idea of how many people will be present.

For those who would like to stay for a drink or meal after the hike, please register by clicking on the LIST before December 4, 2015, this is a non binding commitment. Everyone will of course be responsible for their own drinks and food bill.

Wear good walking shoes or boots and dress warmly as the wind can be fierce off the lake.

REPORT

Tour of Hudson

December 6, 2015

Twenty seven people met at the parking lot opposite the SAQ on Main Road in Hudson at 9:00 am for the Annual Ramblers Association winter "Tour of Hudson" hike. The conditions were perfect for hiking with a temperature around 3c and no precipitation. The trails were in good shape with some  small muddy areas which posed no problems. There were no incidents to report and everyone seemed to have a good time.

Around seventeen people went to Cunningham's Pub on Cameron in  Hudson for drinks and food and again this was well received.

Our annual winter tour of Hudson hike this year coincided with Hudson Santa Claus parade and it was thought that this might cause some issues, this did not prove to be the case We started early enough that there was adequate parking and we left before the parade reached the centre of town and driving away did not create a problem.

This hike continues to be a popular event both in the summer and winter and I believe it should be continued unchanged.
