HIKE REPORT

June 7, 2015

Hike Name: A tour of Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue South

Trip Leader: Paul Michetti with assistance from Ed Sears as Tail Person.

This was the first hike we have done in Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue South which also took in part of Baie d’Urfe to the east up until Churchill Avenue.

The route began from the Christie Street parking lot in western Ste-Anne.  We walked eastward towards John Abbott College along residential streets and through the school property and that of McDonald Campus exiting onto a street named Cemetery Lane.  We proceeded north into the Cemetery and took a 5 minute break to rest and look at the surroundings.  Heading back south we took a left turn on a pedestrian path and into Baie d’Urfe and continued walking eastward via various pedestrian paths through the residential area and heading south on Churchill to Lakeshore Blvd.  From there we walked westward to the village of Ste-Anne and we continued westward on the boardwalk from where it begins until the locks.   We crossed over the lock gate and walked to the end of the piers on the western and eastern ends and returned over the lock gate and back to Christie Street parking.

Total length of the walk was 9.8km and took just over 2 hours and 10 minutes.  The pace was very good and we stopped  to pull the group together when necessary.  The walk was classified as Easy but it could be classified as Intermediate because of the distance.

Number of participants: 31 including 3 guests

The weather was ideal and the fact that the walk was a new one plus the location was easily accessible most likely led to the high attendance.  Many of the participants expressed their pleasure with the walk.

We should consider doing this walk again in the future.
