On Sunday, May 10, join the Ramblers on a hike and social event in Oka Meeting Place: parking area at the corner of Selkirk and Main Road in Hudson. See: http://g.co/maps/6fcxe From there, we will take no more than 10 cars and drive to the Hudson-Oka ferry terminal where we will leave the cars. We will board the ferry as pedestrians for the passage to Oka The pedestrian fare is $2.00 per person each way, this fare will be paid this time by the club for all paid up club members Once in Oka, we will follow the lake shore through a pleasant residential water front area that leads into farm fields. We eventually turn north and enter Oka Regional Park. There is then a walk through the woods and a final uphill stretch to the Sanctuary at the summit where you are rewarded with spectacular views of the Ottawa Valley and Vaudreuil-Soulanges. $ There is an entrance fee of $7.50 per person for parties of 15 people or more to enter this SEPAQ park. For this event The Ramblers Association will pay this entrance fee for its paid-up members. To allow adequate time for everyone to appreciate this vista, we will stay for approximately 30 minutes and it has been suggested that this presents a great opportunity for more socializing over some beverages and a piece of cheese. Everyone is encouraged to bring their own cheese or whatever they wish to eat and drink (wine) Insect repellent may be required and parts of the trail can be muddy, so please be prepared. There will be facilities available at both ferry terminals. I will be leading this hike and my cell phone number for emergencies is 514-909-3505 For information prior to the event I can be reached at 450-458-7131. Ramblers Association Hike report May 10, 2015 Ferry to Oka and hike to Calvary Summit Only 13 people participated in this event this year which is somewhat disappointing. The weather forecast for this day had been calling for heavy rain which might have been a factor although the weather turned out to be perfect for hiking. This event also conflicted with Mother's Day which could be the reason for the low turnout, although this has not been the case in the past but should perhaps be considered for the future. There were several; new members there who enjoyed the event as did everyone else. There were no incidents to report. Cost analysis SEPAC park entrance fees, paid by cheque 12 people at $7:50 $90:00 Ferry fare; 2 Trips 13 people at $2.00 $56:00 which I paid and claimed from the Ramblers Association Total $146.00 Terry Browitt May 13 2015 Members should have their card at each hike.
