REPORT:
Hike:    Spooky North Glengarry Trails Report

Date:     October 26, 2014

Leaders:  Robin Jean & Dalia Sodo

Participants:  20 Hikers

Description:   The morning was rainy, but it stopped when we started the hike.  We all met at the Bonnie Glen Parking Lot for 9:00 a.m., where we left half the cars and headed to the park in Alexandria to leave the remaining cars.  There are washrooms at the park, but they were locked.  Luckily we were able to get someone to open them.  We started the hike from there at approximately 9:30 a.m., and headed up to the trailhead and into the woods/fields, for a long straight-away of 6 km, which ended behind the Bonnie Glen.  People were then given the choice to leave or continue for the remaining 4.3 km loop around Garry Fen.  No one left the hike.  We started into the woods and the sun popped out briefly just as we arrived at the lake.  There were many boardwalks along the way which were extremely slippery.  One person did take a stumble, but was not hurt.  We completed the loop  and were back at the Bonnie Glen just before 12:00.  15 people completed the morning with lunch at the Highland Piper in Alexandria, and there was positive feedback about the hike.

Points of Interest:  As it was the Halloween walk, hikers were given a warning about the many mysterious disappearances that had taken place there, and were instructed to stay close to the group and not to look too closely into the woods for fear of what they might see.  We also came across rare carniverous Pitcher Plants at the lake.

Distance/Rating:  Hike was rated Intermediate due to the distance, and was mostly flat.  Ist part from Alexandria to Bonnie Glen was 6 km.  2nd part loop around lake was 4.3 km. Total 10.3 km.

Facilities:  Washrooms were available at the park in Alexandria.

Thanks to:  Dalia Sodo, for leading and making sure no one disappeared, Moe from the Bonnie Glen for allowing us the use of their parking lot, Friends of the Glengarry Trails Association for maintaining the beautiful trails, and all who came out on a rainy morning!
