The hike on the maintained trail goes up one side to a suspension bridge suspended  over the Assomption River  which crashes and shushes past huge boulders then drops back down the other side; all in a span of about 15 minutes. We will follow the Assomption River with its magnificent but dangerous current as it makes its way  a low old mountain by way of the trail with an occasional crossing by way of footbridges.

It is beautiful with many waterfalls.  The trail is varied with along a sloping road and up a long staircase. Therefore, anyone with physical limitations or  who has difficulty with stairs should reconsider their participation.

We will sit  in the shelter of sunny little hollows to enjoy the warm sun near the running river while eating our picnic. The views are great, bring your camera.

REPORT:

 Falls

Organisateurs: Anne, Édith and Carole

Distance walked: about 11 km

13 members met in the new rendevous point in Vaudreuil, which is more practical and central for many of us. Another member met us directly at the park for a total of 14 hikers in our group.
For this outing, the club paid the entrance fee of $7.50 per person. Park fees are justified since the trails are very well maintained along with the three bridges and many lookouts which allow visitors to observe the waterfalls form various angles. There is ample parking and there are washroom facilities at  each of the three entrances.

From early morning the sun was out and it warmed us all day long. One of the trails was closed : Sentier des îles, because of flooding; all the other trails were very good condition -  dry and clean. We enjoyed our  picnic lunch while sitting in the shade, on big rocks along the banks of the tumultuous Assomption river. The scenery was enchanting.

On our return, after porte Sainte-Béatrix, we took the wrong path at a fork in the trail, even though it was well marked! This trail was nice but not as well maintained as the other trails. I began to worry as we were skirting a ravine; it was then I realized we had taken the wrong trail, so we retraced our steps  and found the right path. There were no other incidents to report.

All participants were happy to discover this new hiking site. We plan to do this full day hike again on a Saturday, probably in the Fall of 2015, to take advantage of viewing this area resplendent in beautiful fall colours.

Many thanks to Édith and Carole for their invaluable help on this hike.
