Bois Robert - Beauharnois

Leader: Carole Lalonde

Distance: 6 km

Level: Easy

Ascent: minimal

Thanks to our active leaders, (and to this long winter) we are able to offer another extra hike this month!

So on Sunday, March 23th, join the Ramblers for a snowshoe hike in Bois Robert in Beauharnois.

Access to the trails is free of charge.

This hike will take us through a forest of maple trees and some varieties of oak. The snowshoe trail, very well marked, meanders through the woods and follows  the banks of Saint-Louis river. There are some short gentle hills.

Beside the parking lot, you will find an heated  shelter and a dry toilet.

Carole will lead this easy hike which will take about 2 hours and, depending on the snow conditions, footwear could be hiking boots, or crampons or snowshoes.

Rendezvous at 9:00 a.m. in the parking lot behind the Municipal Garage at 50 chemin des Hauts-Fournaux, Beauharnois, right after the PPG plant. The hike will start at 9:10 a.m.

Take Highway 30. Take exit 22:  R-236, Chemin Saint-Louis, Saint-Étienne-de-Beauharnois towards Boul de l'Énergie. Turn left on boulevard de l'Énergie (R236). Turn right on Boul de Melocheville/Rue Saint Laurent/QC-132 E. Continue on Road 132 until Chemin des Hauts-Fourneaux. The parking lot is right beside the PPG Plant.

REPORT:

We were 14 brave hikers (13 members and one guest) for this hike on a cold windy morning. Once in the shelter of the woods, we didn't feel the wind chill factor as much.

We walked 5.6 in 1 h 45 min. Thanks to the heavy snow from the day before, the  trail was in perfect condition for snowshoeing.

All the hikers enjoyed this trail which wanders through the woods, with some slight ascents. It was an easy for everyone and I think we should include it as part of our regular schedule.

There were no incidents to report.

In the near future, there will be a new entrance on Road 236; the present entrance between the municipal garage and the PPG Plant is not very well situated.
