Leader: Christine, Claude and Michèle

Distance: about 10 km

Level: Easy; flat grounds

Rendezvous: at 9:00 a.m. in the parking lot of Evergreen School, 2625 Bordelais Rue, Saint-Lazare, QC. To see in Google Map.

The hike will start with a tour of Mr. Therrien’s well kept property. We will pass along a trail once used by the Montreal Hunt Club, then cross a river to follow a trail which was already there  when the equine population of Saint-Lazare exceeded the human population. After a short walk on the cycling path, we will proceed on the South side of the Chevrier sand pit via trail #60, walk on a beautiful forest trail along Sandmere and come out on St-Charles to head north toward Bugle Call through the Saddlebrook labyrinth. We will then proceed East towards the Hydro servitude all the way along the Dunes Lake trail and return through paved streets to our starting point.

REPORT:

On a breezy morning with slightly cooler temps, 23 randonneurs participated
in a circular hike around the trails of Saddlebrook and Cedarbrook in St
Lazare.
Starting from the parking lot of Evergreen School we passed through Mr.
Therrien's well kept property, however we kept to the rim trail as there are
trees down on the trail by the ponds that were discovered on the
reconnoiter!
We came out onto rue Lemon and headed over to trail # 60, on this version of
the hike we kept on this trail all the way along the south side of the
Chevrier sand pit to the beautiful forest trails close to Sandmere, we
zig-zagged on all of the available trails in that area then headed west on
Sandmere but cutting onto Furlong via a short connecter tail, from Furlong
we continued on a short stretch of Steeplechase and onto Bugle Call, this
route avoids the busy St-Charles road. We then, after a short water stop,
proceed east on the Hydro servitude all the way along to the Dunes Lake
trail, going round the lake via the left side trail, once at the main beach
its a short hop, skip and jump going east on Yearling to the other
connecting trail going around the lake, cutting back into the woods and
proceeding onto the Bordelais Bog trail with a short walk along the paved
street of Bordelais to our starting point.

We maintained a good pace as there were 3 leaders throughout the group but
still not all participants kept each other in sight! No one was lost.
The mosquitoes were not too bad in the woods.

Starting out at 9:05 am, we walked the 10,9 km in 2h27 (the slower group
arrival time).

There were no unexpected incidents.

Christine
