The Centre Tourisitique et Éducatif des Laurentides will welcome us on Saturday, July 27th for a one day hike on  beautiful woodlands. A discovery room  in the interpretive centre highlights the centre’s flora and fauna.

We will walk a distance of about 10 km on some of the 8 trails through Peat bog, swamps, fir trees and will enjoy magnificent points of view for the amateur photographer. The hike should be completed in about 4 h. All trails are  impeccably laid out, with small bridges, footbridges, shelters and lookouts. We will hike the Panoramique, which climbs to an altitude of 220 m (Intermediate) and offers a stirring view of Lac du Cordon and the surrounding mountains. It’s a steep but short climb (change in altitude: 180 m)

The trails are well designed with wooden steps for steep ascents.

$ Admitance fee at CTEL is $6,50 ($5 for FADOQ members). Parties of 20 people: 15% discount

To see a map of the trails we will hike click here.

We will walk on part of  the Tour-du-Lac which skirts around magnificent Lac du Cordon and where little rest areas laid out along the way offer some welcome moments of relaxation. We will take some other trails: l’Érablière ( 2km) la Sapinière (1,6 km) and l’Aquatique with its superb wooden bridge where you can see nurse logs and Venus Flytraps.

At the end of Lac du Cordon, we will reach l’Aventurier (Difficult) which  leads to the top of a mountain (530 m) and offers a much appreciated view of Lac Renversi. A small trail (shortcut) will connect us back on the Tour-du-Lac trail.

Bring insect repellent, camera, water bottle and your picnic. Picnic tables are available at different places. Rest room and beverage machine are available in the interpretative Centre.

REPORT:

It was a very nice hike!

There was a problem with the carpooling, closed trails that were not listed on the park website and no cell phone service within the park.

Two persons who had registered on the carpooling LIST did not show up at the rendezvous point, so time was lost waiting for them. For future hikes, I recommend there be only one rendezvous point -  at the Hudson Shopping Centre. Also, by 10:15 one of the expected hikers still had not arrived and when I tried to contact her by  cellphone, I found out that the park has no cell service. At 10:28 we ended up leaving without her. We were 15 hikers.

Upon arrival at the park, we learned that the Panoramique and Aventurier trails were closed which was not indicated on the Park’s web site. After discussion with the Park attendant, we decided  to take a chance and try hiking the Panoramique trail as we were all intermediate hikers.

Going up the Panoramique trail, we encountered 5 fallen trees. Although it was not too difficult to go over or around them; it did slow us down. On the way down, I noticed that the stairs were not in very good condition, some were rickety. It would be a good idea for the leader to mark the problem steps with white chalk or coloured ribbon because word of mouth warnings do not always reach the hikers at the end of the group.

At 12:12 we stopped for a half hour lunch at the north end of Lake du Cordon,  before continuing along the trail to the Mine and then doing the Tour du Lac. At 14:14, as we passed near the administration building, 3 hikers who were tired left the group, the others continued on the Aquatic and Riverain trails for a total distance of 10.2 km.

Thank you to Michèle and Alain for guiding us safely on this hike.
