REPORT:

Weather; 3c sunny

Trail condition: the whole trail was covered in several inches of very wet snow.

Twenty two people participated in this event considered the first hike of the spring season. Each year the weather has been different from a clear trail to heavy wet snow condition as existed today.

The parking facilities on St George were considered to be inadequate for the number of participants, so everyone met at the Sucrerie de la Montagne and car pooled to St George. The heavy snow covering made this hike event more strenuous than usual for some people who requested a reduced distance. At the junction of Montee Neuf and St George it was decided to split into 3 groups; Claude Fortier continued on the original route, Martin Hofton lead approximately 10 people back to the original parking at Sucrerie de la Montagne and I took the balance back to the parking on St George.

There were no unexpected incidents on this hike.

Recommendations:

1. If we continue meeting at Sucrerie de la Montagne then the route should be changed so that the event starts and ends there.

2. We should ensure we have permission in writing from the Sucrerie to park there as a group.
